CTC for QA3 Teens: Seeing life through a lens of sharia

Mufti Moinul has moved from the previous topic intellectual proofs of Islam and proving the authenticity of the Quran to the legal theory of Islam i.e a primer in Usul ul_Fiqh. The aim behind understanding the 5 ahkam (ruling of Wajib, Mandoob, Mubah, Makrooh & Haram) is to instil the following mindsets:

1- An appreciation of how rulings are derived 2- Confidence in Allah (swa) being the sole legislator 3- The ability to see the world through a prism of these 5 ahkam so as to learn how to prioritise a life of worship 4- The ability to discuss live issues like global warming, the sugar industry and childhood obesity and recognise the intersecting principles on how to solve these problem and so much more...

In the afternoon CTC class we are currently studying "first Principle of Islam" which involves rational evidence for the existence of the Creator and why that is connected with a goal that every human being has, namely, to be happy. We are discussing how happiness has different levels based on it connection with lower or higher purposes.

The Elephant In The Room

A polite and humble reminder. . We have for several months spent time reminding people about late payment and nonpayment.

Currently two weeks of every month are spent doing this. . Wouldn’t you agree that time is better spent managing and improving the madrasah?

We are having to delay paying our teachers for up to 10 days due to lack of funds every month.

Wouldn’t you agree that this anxiety could be avoided and we can instead improve good will and morale and thereby the teaching standards?

We are partners in making this madrasah a success and so we’ll get the madrasah we build together.

Futuwwa Club: Mothers have reached out

Update: We are now making plans for the girls club to open on Fridays at 5pm at the Women's Centre due to mothers reaching out on one of the weekday evenings along with the boys club for fitness and pad-work and self defence to be held on Saturdays 12.45pm at the Madrasah hall.

We are planning on opening up fitness and fun for boys from 5-7pm on Fridays. You will receive an email when the time is right Insha'Allah. This should be ready by the beginning of July providing we can hire a suitable trainer.

Mehron Nisa Women's Centre

This centre is focussed on supporting Muslim sisters and reverts.

Have you ever felt powerless to help a family member, friend or a sister in the community? Then why not offer a few month's subscription to our women's wellness centre? It could be exactly what they needed. Support your sister's mind, body and soul, gift her an outlet to heal, regain a sense of herself and grow! Provide some solace for your sister. We will post her a pamper package and a card with all the information.

Global Madrasah is going truly global

The importance of thinking earnestly

A new dawn is rising. A new unique online class is opening with Ustadh Asadullah. I cannot express how grateful I am for an academic of his stature contributing his time and effort to teach our youth. May we all keep that love for youth what I call “love for the streets”.

This will be free for existing students of the Global Madrasah who are 10+ in age and £65 a month for newcomers to our madrasah.

In an age when our children’s attention is being fragmented, their thoughts scattered and their inclinations skewed, I’m a firm believe that *thinking properly* should be emphasised more than ever.

We start in June or July latest. Limited places. Email your interest to [email protected]

Reports and Parent's Evenings

Alhamdulillah our children have been through a lot with many interruptions to their education through a global pandemic and we are finally getting students caught up and progressing steadily to the next QA level.

We are developing a new tracking and auditing system and will have this ready for new detailed reports to come out by the end of July as part of our bi-yearly reporting. The new up-to-date reports will begin in July and will be emailed to you within 30 days of that time Insha'Allah. Your previous report should have been emailed to you in the last few weeks.

How to get the best from your parents
By Mufti Moinul Abu Hamza

I asked the teens to put their hands up if they disappeared for a little while if their parents would think they’ve run off to play in a casino lol. Almost all of them put their hands up, the girls nearly fell off their chairs agreeing.

I taught them communication skills from the Quran on how to express feelings and needs to their parents. In this case, actions are better communications that words. Actions demonstrate understanding not words. I explained that parents apply pressure because they feel if they let down the pressure that they would make poor decisions.

I asked them “how many of you feel you don’t have your own space “

I pointed out that parents have very little to go by so they take indicators like how mess is left on a table for two days untouched or the room isn’t cleaned unless and until they are nagged. I said “if you show you can make sound decisions independently your parents will give you more space”.

Like a kind of ombudsman I relayed the fairness of parents when they didn’t give space to children that haven’t demonstrated the ability to handle things.

We then talked about communication and how if you could convince your parents of the most immediate and proximate aims and how you won’t make any drastic decisions within that time, then after that first target you could negotiate the next step -you don’t have to have your life mapped out until your late twenties!

I also pointed out that parents can’t loosen the reigns when as children on one hand, one is rebelling against the good aspects of their parents, and in the other hand always looking like one is dying to emulate one’s silliest of mates. The example I gave was how some kids laugh along with a bully.

We then talked about how parents guilt trip us with life stories of struggle (some examples have had some Hollywood effects added) over the smallest issue. I said it would be more time efficient to skip the guilt tripping by specifying what needs doing and then just doing it beforehand.

Some parents use “obedience to the parent is obligatory” as a form of religious control. Asking their kids to buy a loaf of bread every time they want to go out and learn the Deen or make friends in a good environment.

Detaching (a little) and reattaching with parents on new terms isn’t easy, it has to be subtle and slow. Often kids completely cow-tow and grow to be passive or they explode into rebellion, neither are good for the soul.

The kids hung around for around 15mins after class quizzing me about their futures and we got talking about spiritual trajectories and paths alongside careers. These kids are all high achievers MāshāAllah, so it was an honour to be there as their trusted guide.

Critical Thinking Prepares Minds

What’s your legacy? What’s your child’s “Madrasah Life Experience”.

1- Deen and Dunya

The madrasah experience will play a crucial developmental role in your child’s adult life, whether that involves seeking work, family or further education. Their grounding from their parents, and compassionate and convincing madrasah experience could be the last barricade to poor decisions and the greatest catalyst for their achievements in this world for the next.

2- Traditional meets modern

A new year means getting settled back into school, which means the beginning of your child’s madrasah experience. We offer a traditional Islamic sciences experience with modern methods of teaching and assessment with a revivalist perspective.

3- Ummah through friendship

Let’s not make their madrasah experience traumatic or subpar like many of us remember, let’s make it a means of building confidence. Let’s not make it about rote learning but about critical learners that transcend modern doubts. Let’s not make it about cute performances of Quran but make it about authenticity, genuineness and compassion in character. Let’s not make it about merely competing on how many Juz were memorised but rather a group effort of madrasah friends who work to each other’s strengths.

Islamic education is duty upon parents in regards to girls as well as boys

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.
